Everlyn’s life took an unexpected turn when she became a child mother at the age of 13. However, she refused to let this define her.

 Through the intervention of Save the Children with funding from BPRM and other various organizations, she found the support she needed to overcome adversity and build a brighter future for herself and her children.

Everlyn’s early life was marked by abandonment and uncertainty. At just two years old, she was left by her biological mother.

Fortunately, her caring grandmother stepped in to provide a stable home. Everlyn faced rejection and exclusion from her friends and even her own family when she became pregnant.

During her pregnancy, Everlyn experienced homelessness and isolation. Her grandmother, overwhelmed by the situation, chased her away from home, leaving her to seek refuge with compassionate neighbors. Stripped of her support system, she felt lost.

Support provided by Save the Children, other partners, and the community structures, came to Everlyn's rescue. Their intervention led to a transformative series of events that helped restore her faith in humanity.

A Save the Children staff appreciates Everlyn's crocheting creativity. 

Her harsh grandmother had a change of heart and welcomed her back home, promising to support her like a true mother.

Save the Children referred her to the IRC for antenatal services and essential checkups, ensuring her health and that of her unborn child. Recognizing the need for legal support, her case was referred to the DRC, although the perpetrator had fled to South Sudan.  Additionally, Everlyn received crucial psychosocial support from TPO to alleviate her overwhelming stress.

Everlyn's involvement in peer-to-peer groups not only provided her with guidance and support but also inspired other young girls to take control of their lives. Everlyn's family received three goats, from Save the Children which served as a means of sustenance. Though one goat died, the remaining two will still provide valuable resources.

Moreover, Save the Children equipped Everlyn with essential skills under the graduation program for Children in Alternative care. She learned to make liquid soap, which she now sells at Tijulua market, improving her living condition. Additionally, she acquired skills in bar soap making and aspires to become a skilled baker, specializing in exquisite cakes for weddings and other occasions.

"Save the Children is a mother to me. The staff restored my hope and I felt a sense of belonging again," Everlyn says.

Everlyn is now empowered to meet her basic needs and take care of her children

Everlyn's journey from adversity to empowerment is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Through the intervention of Save the Children and other organizations, she was able to transcend her challenging circumstances and build a promising future for herself and her children.

Her story serves as an inspiration to others, highlighting the importance of providing support and opportunities to child mothers and addressing the plight of vulnerable children. By nurturing potential and offering a helping hand, we can create a brighter tomorrow for every child, regardless of their circumstances.
